Over the course of 2025, Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC)’s Global Standards Mapping Initiative (GSMI) 6.0 produced 7 in-depth reports and industry recommendations, including a spotlight on DeFi.

GBBC’s Diana Oreto (Barrero Zalles), Head of GSMI and Research, joined GSMI 6.0 Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Working Group co-chairs Lee Schneider (Ava Labs) and Joseph Cutler (Perkins Coie) to break down the critical difference between protocol-layer decentralization and application-layer governance concentration, while addressing the key regulatory and liability questions surrounding blockchain.
