GBBC & Ocean Elders AMA - Rossana Polastri, International Fund for Agricultural Development

Nov 13, 2020

If we want to proactively address the relationship between increasing and sweeping poverty, global hunger, and the developing world, we need to look at rural, small-scale farming as both the core of the problem and the solution. Three quarters of the poorest people in the world live in the rural areas of developing countries. Most of them depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Climate change, a growing global population, and volatile food and energy prices have the potential to push millions more vulnerable people into extreme poverty and hunger by 2030.

The mission of IFAD, a specialized agency of the United Nations, is to transform rural economies and food systems by making them more inclusive, productive, resilient and sustainable. Rossana Polastri, IFAD’s Regional Director for the Latin America & Caribbean Division, will discuss the process and successes of this mission in her region.

Rossana will be speaking with us from Peru, her native country, where she brings deep international expertise to enable and support small-farm agriculture as a foundational layer to long-term, broad-based solutions.

Sandra Ro, host of our Enterprise Blockchain Innovation Series and CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), will sit down with Rossana to discuss the difficulties encountered, the solutions to these problems, and how blockchain technology can help achieve their goals.

Please join us in this unique live and interactive conversation with Rossana and Sandra as part of our ongoing blockchain series of Town Halls with GBBC.

We will take questions via Q & A text and voice call-in from the attendees.

We encourage you to submit questions prior to the event to
